Thad Matta has announced his retirement as Butler’s men’s basketball coach. Matta returned to Butler ahead of the 2022-23 season. He will continue to remain employed by the university in an administrative capacity.

Former Crest High School football standout Brandon Spikes is set to be inducted into the Cleveland County Sports Hall of Fame. The ceremony will take place on May 18 at Shelby City Park in North Carolina. Before becoming a Florida Gator, Spikes won multiple state championships in football at Crest and was a three-time all-state boys basketball player.
Former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees made an appearance at the Savannah Bananas game against The Party Animals. The game took place at the Caesars Superdome on March 15, 2026. Brees’ visit surprised fans.
