Arsenal Eye Rafael Leao Amid Martinelli’s Uncertain Future

Arsenal are reportedly among several Premier League clubs showing interest in AC Milan winger Rafael Leao. Intermediaries have reportedly contacted Arsenal, Chelsea, Liverpool, and Manchester United to gauge their interest in the player. The Gunners’ interest comes amidst questions about the future of their current wingers.

Leao as a Potential Replacement

Arsenal’s attacking options on the left wing, including Gabriel Martinelli and Leandro Trossard, have not consistently performed to expectations during the 2025-26 campaign. This has led to speculation that Arsenal may look to strengthen that position in the summer transfer window. Eberechi Eze has also made a limited impact on the left wing.

AC Milan may consider selling Leao for £43.2m should he not agree to a contract extension. Leao has two years remaining on his current deal. While Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain are also monitoring the situation, a move to England is considered the most likely option for the Portuguese international.

Martinelli’s Performance Under Scrutiny

Leao has scored 10 goals and provided three assists in 28 appearances for Milan this season. In comparison, Trossard has five Premier League goals this season, while Martinelli has only one. Trossard has six assists to Leao’s three, and has created 34 chances compared to Leao’s 20.

Man United’s Interest in Leao

Despite recent fitness issues, including calf and adductor injuries, interest in Leao remains high. Manchester United are reportedly willing to offer three players in exchange for the 26-year-old this summer.

Arsenal’s dominant 3-0 victory over Fulham, where Viktor Gyokeres, Bukayo Saka and Leandro Trossard all scored, has highlighted the team’s attacking prowess. Trossard, in particular, strengthened his claim to start over Gabriel Martinelli in the Champions League semi-final second leg against Atletico Madrid, registering a 100% success rate from six take-ons in the match against Fulham.
