Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury Fight: UK Stadium a Frontrunner

The highly anticipated Anthony Joshua vs Tyson Fury fight could be held in the UK, with a UK stadium being the “frontrunner” according to promoter Eddie Hearn.

The British rivals have signed a deal to box this year, settling a rivalry that dates back decades. Their long-awaited clash would fill any stadium in Britain.

UK a Potential Location

Despite the UK being a potential location, the fight could be staged overseas. Hearn told Sky Sports that the UK is “probably the frontrunner” but the location is not yet decided.

“I think him as a fight fan would like the fight to take place in the UK but I wouldn’t rule out America, I wouldn’t rule out Saudi,” Hearn said.

Hearn noted that both fighters are receiving a “huge, huge amount of money” and Turki Alalshikh is paying the bill.

Possible Venues

Wembley would be a fitting venue for the fight. The Principality Stadium in Cardiff has a retractable roof, and the Tottenham Hotspur stadium has previously held big fights.

November Date

“November is the date for Fury against AJ,” Hearn noted.

Hearn said that Turki Alalshikh’s team are putting a few thoughts in their minds about a potential venue, and it is up to them since they are paying the bill. Hearn added that he is sure they’d love the fight to take place in the UK.

“Obviously it is in November, it does limit you slightly but wherever that fight lands we’ll be ready,” Hearn said.

Warm-Up Bout

Joshua has a warm-up bout in Riyadh against Kristian Prenga on July 25. Hearn also expects Fury to take a tune up fight at the start of August.

Hearn said that everybody presumes AJ will walk through Prenga, but he is a decent fighter. He added that Prenga has 20 knockouts in 21 wins and is looking at it thinking he could beat Anthony Joshua.

“It’s two nail-biters back to back because you’ve got July 25 and then [potentially] August 1 but we’re just focused on Prenga and doing the job,” Hearn added.

Hearn stated that after Joshua’s bout against Prenga, everyone will be ready.
