Eastbourne Borough have a new addition to their squad as they fight for survival. A new forward, Angol, is ready to make an impact as he joins the Sports. He has played the last few seasons in the EFL.
Angol Ready for the Challenge
Angol said, “It feels good to get the deal done.” He added, “I’m aware of the situation that we’re in – I’m not confused or anything and I know what needs to be done; what energy I need to bring and try and help the team.
“I have reached a point in my career where I wanted a challenge. It’s not easy to walk into a building where a team are fighting relegation. I’ve been in relegation battles before and I’m hoping to take what I’ve learned from them and bring it here to help the team.”
The 31-year-old arrives having left Cheltenham Town in the winter. In recent seasons, he has enjoyed spells with Morecambe, Sutton United, Bradford City and Leyton Orient.
Reunion with Steve King
Angol enjoyed his most prolific spell at Boreham Wood, scoring 25 goals in 39 appearances, which earned him a move to Peterborough United. It was whilst at Wood that he first came across boss Steve King. Angol scored a free-kick in the National League South Play-Off Final against King’s Whitehawk team.
“I knew him (King) a long time ago, so when this opportunity came up it all aligned.
“It’s a weird situation as there’s eight games to play for, and a situation I’ve never really found myself in before.
“But it’s a challenge and it’s one I’m ready to get behind.
“It’s bringing that experience from similar situations I’ve found myself in throughout my career and trying to bring that togetherness into the group.”
Focus on Togetherness
The Sports go into tomorrow’s game with Maidenhead United six points adrift of safety with eight games to go. Angol knows that there is still plenty to play for.
“Togetherness is what is going to help us survive,” he added.
“Everyone needs to be on the same page and together – focusing on one game at a time. I know it’s a cliché, but every game is like a final for us now.
“As long as everyone’s together and focused on what we need to do, then I’m sure we will get ourselves out of this.”
