Andy Murray has joined Jack Draper’s coaching team for the grass-court season. This follows Draper’s split with Jamie Delgado. Murray, a three-time Grand Slam champion, last coached Novak Djokovic for six months last year.
Murray to Support Draper Through Wimbledon
Murray, 38, will be part of Draper’s team for the grass-court season, including Wimbledon, which begins on 29 June.
Draper expressed his gratitude for Jamie Delgado’s contributions over the past six months, calling him a world-class coach. Draper added that he will continue to be supported by the LTA, with the addition of Andy Murray.
Draper’s Recent Struggles and Injury Issues
Draper, 24, has faced a number of injuries. He will miss this month’s French Open due to a knee tendon problem.
As a result of his absences, the 2024 US Open semi-finalist has dropped in the rankings and is set to fall outside the top 75 after the Italian Open. Draper plans to return for the grass-court swing after Roland Garros but has not yet finalised his schedule.
A comeback at the start of June in Stuttgart, where Draper won his first ATP title in 2024, is a possibility. Queen’s in London is scheduled for a week later.
Delgado’s Brief Tenure with Draper
Draper hired Delgado, who previously worked with Murray when he became world number one, as head coach in October.
However, their partnership was limited to four tournaments this season due to Draper’s injury problems. Draper did not play competitively for almost six months after last year’s US Open because of a bruised humerus bone in his serving arm.
- Draper returned to the ATP Tour in Dubai after playing one match for Great Britain in the Davis Cup tie against Norway.
- He has played only eight tour matches since.
- He cut short his clay-court season after retiring injured with a knee problem in Barcelona.
Murray and Draper played against each other in 2023, while also spending time together as British Davis Cup team-mates.
