The world’s No. 3-ranked tennis player is participating in the men’s singles event, facing Terence Atmane in the Round of 32 on April 27. He is also competing with Marcelo Melo in the men’s doubles event.
Doubles Defeat and Singles Focus
Zverev and Melo lost their Round of 32 match on April 26. This means Zverev will now focus solely on the singles aspect of the tournament.
Girlfriend Sophia Thomalla’s Work in Thailand
Zverev’s relationship with Sophia Thomalla has heightened his profile. The couple has been together since 2020 and are still going strong, despite earlier rumours of a split.
Thomalla is currently hosting a show called “Are You The One?” which is shooting in Koh Samui, Thailand. Because of this, she is unable to attend the Madrid Open.
Thomalla recently debuted a new hairstyle and posted an Instagram photo of herself in a brown swimsuit in Koh Samui on April 26. The post is captioned, “Bangs: now I mind my business because I can’t see yours 😎”.
Potential French Open Appearance
It’s unclear when Thomalla’s show will end. She is likely eager to return to Zverev and their shared dog, Mishka.
Roland Garros (aka the French Open) is taking place next month, and Thomalla will surely do everything she can in order to be free to support Zverev there. However, that may not be possible, considering that she has the show and must prioritise that.
Carlos Alcaraz is injured and not competing at the French Open this year, which should give Zverev an increased chance to win his first-ever major.
