AJ Styles has retired from in-ring competition but is already working with WWE in talent relations and scouting.
Styles’ New Role: Support and Guidance
Styles discussed his new behind-the-scenes role on the Phenomenally Retro Podcast. He explained his motivations for the quick return to the locker room after retiring.
Styles said some of his former colleagues were surprised to see him back so soon. He wants to check in on everyone and offer support. “Hey, I’m here for you, man. Take my number. If you have any questions, give me a call. If you just need to talk to somebody, give me a call. I’m your guy,'” Styles said.
Styles clarified his availability to talent extends beyond professional mentorship. He wants to be a confidential resource. Wrestlers can trust him without worrying about their conversations being shared.
“I think that we need everybody like that in any kind of office space or workplace — there’s got to be someone you could talk to that you could trust, that isn’t gonna go blab,” he said. “Or if there’s something going on that you could trust them to go talk to someone else and see if we can get this handled.
Styles’ Passion and Experience
Styles said his passion stems from personal experience. He has seen the impact of life on the road on wrestlers. “I really do care. I know what it’s like and I’ve seen it damage so many people,” said Styles.
Styles added, “I don’t want that to happen. I want everybody to understand who they are and where they’re at — and that, if you haven’t had that opportunity, it’s coming. Just stay ready.”
Hall of Fame Induction
Styles will be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2026 this spring. His move into a front office role is a significant development for WWE. He brings a respected veteran voice to its talent infrastructure. This comes at a time when performer well-being is a prominent topic in the industry.
