Aberdeen Face Kilmarnock Test Amidst League Tussle

Aberdeen are set to face Kilmarnock, with Neil McCann’s side sitting in 11th place in the Scottish Premiership, two points behind St Mirren and five adrift of Aberdeen and Dundee.

McCann was seen watching his Kilmarnock players warm up.

Aberdeen Look to Extend Lead

Aberdeen stretched their lead over the Ayrshire team after beating Hibs at home last time out, ending a run of eight games without a win, while Killie drew 2-2 with Dundee.

Stephen Robinson will be hoping a first win in four games since he switched from St Mirren will ease some of the pressure that has mounted on Aberdeen.

Kilmarnock’s Fight for Survival

Kilmarnock, meanwhile, have improved under McCann but still have a fight on their hands to avoid a repeat of 2021, when their 28-year stay in the top flight was ended after a play-off defeat by Dundee.

Indeed, the odds appear stacked against them at Pittodrie considering they have not won in 13 trips away from Rugby Park since September and have lost on their latest four visits to Aberdeen.

Former Aberdeen keeper Kelle Roos is back at Pittodrie for Killie, but he starts on the bench.

Elsewhere in Scottish Football

  • In Scottish League 1, Inverness will win the title today if they match Stenhousemuir’s result against Alloa.
  • Even if they lose at East Fife and Stenny draw, the title is probably theirs because of goal difference.
  • Kelty could also be relegated this afternoon.

In Scottish League 2, East Kilbride will be promoted as champions if they win at Dumbarton and Spartans lose to Elgin. Anything less and it goes to the final day of the season with just one point between them at the moment.

St Johnstone showed no signs of a hangover last night when they dispatched Raith Rovers 2-0 to lift the second-tier title in style, going back to the top flight at the first time of asking.

A shock relegation for Ross County could become reality if they lose to Morton and Airdrie win at home to Ayr. Of course, a reverse of those results would change everything.

Last night’s defeat for Rovers confirmed Scottish Cup finalists Dunfermline’s place in the play-offs.

Celtic can go level on points with leaders Hearts today if they defeat Falkirk. Hearts go to Hibs and Rangers welcome Motherwell tomorrow.

Falkirk lost on penalties to bitter rivals Dunfermline, but they could put that well behind them by fuelling their European hopes with a result at Celtic Park. The action at Parkhead kicks off at 17:30 BST.
