Aaron Rai Wins US PGA Championship; McIlroy Finishes in Top 10

England’s Aaron Rai has claimed his first major title after winning the US PGA Championship at Aronimink. Rai’s victory marks several firsts, including the first Englishman to win the Wanamaker Trophy in over a century and the first non-American to triumph in a decade. He finished the tournament at nine under overall.

Rai’s Winning Performance

Rai, known for his diligence, navigated the course with clarity and composure during the final round. He secured the win with a 69ft putt on the 17th green. Rai carded a five-under-par 65 to finish nine under overall. He had never finished in the top 10 at a major before.

According to Rai, winning the US PGA Championship is surreal, especially after a frustrating season impacted by a neck injury. He said being stood at the end victorious was outside of his wildest imagination.

The Race for Second Place

Jon Rahm and Alex Smalley finished joint second, three shots behind Rai. Justin Thomas, Ludvig Aberg, and Matthias Schmid tied for fifth place. Thomas posted an early target after a five-under 65.

McIlroy’s Tournament Result

Rory McIlroy finished the tournament at -4. Rai was joint second best on Sunday and fourth for the week in keeping his ball on the fairway from the tee.

Rai’s strategic approach and ability to keep the ball on the fairway proved crucial to his victory.
