Lecce Face Atalanta Test in Serie A Survival Fight

Atalanta BC, with Champions League aspirations, are preparing for a Serie A match against Lecce, who are battling to avoid relegation. Atalanta have been in strong form since the start of 2026, securing eight wins and accumulating 28 points. Only Inter Milan and Como have gained more points in the same period.

The Bergamaschi currently sit seventh in Serie A, four points behind Roma, who occupy the last European qualification spot. Meanwhile, Lecce are in 18th place, level on points with Cremonese and two points behind Fiorentina.

Atalanta’s European Ambitions

Seven points separate Raffaele Palladino’s team from a Champions League place. They may need a near-perfect run to secure a return ticket for next season.

Atalanta’s Champions League journey ended with a 10-2 aggregate defeat to Bayern Munich last month. However, they responded with a 1-0 league victory over Hellas Verona.

Davide Zappacosta’s goal secured the win in their last match before the international break. Marten de Roon also became the club’s record appearance-maker in that game.

Atalanta have a mixed away record, with 18 points gained on the road compared to 32 at home. Recent history is on their side, though: Atalanta have won their last two matches at Stadio Via del Mare, scoring six goals without conceding.

Lecce’s Fight for Survival

Lecce have lost four of their last five league encounters with Atalanta, including a 4-1 defeat in September, when Charles De Ketelaere scored twice. They are in desperate need of a change in fortunes as they battle against relegation.

After a vital win against Cremonese, Lecce briefly moved out of the drop zone, but defeats to Napoli and Roma followed. The loss to Roma was their sixth in the last seven away matches.

Eusebio Di Francesco’s side are facing a difficult run of games and need to start picking up points against the stronger teams in Serie A. Against teams currently in the top half, Lecce have only managed four points from 16 games, scoring just six goals.

Another blank against Roma means the Salentini are joint-lowest scorers in Serie A alongside Parma. No Lecce player has scored more than three league goals this season.
