Arsenal’s Gyokeres Follows Mbappe, Trademarks Celebration

Arsenal’s Viktor Gyokeres has trademarked his mask celebration.

Reports indicate Gyokeres filed a case to the EU Trademark and Design Protection Authority to trademark his mask celebration. Cole Palmer has trademarked his shivering celebration, while Kylian Mbappe trademarked his sliding on knees with arms crossed and hands tucked under the armpits celebration.

Gyokeres’ Mask Celebration Explained

Gyökeres creates this mask by interlocking his fingers over his mouth and nose which references Christopher Nolan’s The Dark Knight Rises but more specifically Bane who stated: “No one cared who I was until I put on the mask.”

Two years ago, Gyökeres posted an edited video of a few of his highlights on Instagram when he was at Sporting and the celebration has stuck ever since.

Approved Trademark Application

The report claims the striker’s application was approved in September. Palmer and Mbappe are said to be keen on the trademark due to branding.

Gyokeres has 11 goals in 29 appearances this season for The Gunners. He has used his mask celebration in all competitions including for Sweden most recently as he helped his nation qualify for the World Cup.

After scoring a clinical hat trick to secure a 3-1 victory over Ukraine, sending his country to the World Cup, his attention will turn back to facing Southampton in the FA Cup Quarter Final this weekend.
