Justin Verlander’s Detroit Tigers Return Delayed by Injury

Justin Verlander’s highly anticipated return to Comerica Park as a Detroit Tiger has been postponed. The major league’s oldest active player, at 43, has been placed on the 15-day injured list. The reason for this is left hip inflammation.

Verlander’s Scheduled Start Postponed

Verlander was scheduled to make his first start in a Tigers uniform at Detroit’s home park since Aug. 20, 2017, on Sunday night. He was traded to Houston at the trade deadline that year.

Verlander’s Return to Detroit

Verlander re-signed with Detroit on a one-year, $13 million contract in February. This move followed his time with San Francisco last season. From 2005 to 2017, Verlander made 380 starts for Detroit.

Montero to Take the Mound

In his first start this season, Verlander allowed five runs and six hits in 3⅔ innings against Arizona on Monday and took the loss. RHP Keider Montero was recalled from Triple-A Toledo. He is expected to start the finale of a three-game series against St. Louis.
