Early MLB Season: Rookies Shine, Yankees’ Pitching Looks Strong

The early days of the MLB season have seen exciting baseball, with rookies dominating the conversation. Chase DeLauter and Munetaka Murakami made history by homering in each of their first three major league games, joining a very exclusive club. Kevin McGonigle had a four-hit debut, and JJ Wetherholt hit his first major league home run in his debut.

There have also been early bullpen concerns, particularly in Kansas City. Shohei Ohtani delivered an exciting first start on the mound. One of the surprising stories is a team atop the standings in Miami, and so far, no teams have gone undefeated.

Yankees’ Pitching Potential

The Yankees’ pitching staff has the potential to be overpowering by season’s end, boasting a 1.01 ERA through six games. A key factor will be whether they can maintain good health within the pitching ranks. They allowed just three runs in the first four games. Carlos Rodon and Gerrit Cole are both making progress in their recoveries from arm surgery.

Cole is expected back in early June. Rodon will return in the next couple of months, although some hamstring tightness this week might slow his progress. Luis Gil is slated to step into the fifth spot in the rotation on April 10. The Yankees’ bullpen could receive a boost later in the year from rotation depth.

Dodgers Monitoring Sasaki’s Progress

Roki Sasaki’s spring training was rough, with 26 of 52 batters reaching base against him, 15 via walks. His regular-season debut on Monday was much improved, pitching into the fifth inning and allowing just one run and two walks. While not dominant, it was a positive step forward, especially since Sasaki admitted to having “no confidence at all” beforehand. The Dodgers are committed to giving Sasaki opportunities to start, but he needs to continue to improve.

Mariners Secure Key Players

The Mariners have finalised long-term deals with their two franchise cornerstones: center fielder Julio Rodriguez and catcher Cal Raleigh. They’ve also signed a highly touted infielder, hoping he will reach the big leagues soon.

The season is still young, and teams are looking to solidify their positions as the marathon continues.
