Macklin Celebrini has entered an elite group, achieving 100 points this season. The San Jose Sharks forward reached the milestone with a three-point performance against the St. Louis Blues on Monday.
Celebrini’s Century Mark
Celebrini’s assist and goal in the first period made him the first teenager since Sidney Crosby in 2006-07 to reach 100 points. Crosby, often compared to Celebrini, is the only player to achieve this feat twice before turning 20. Celebrini’s current season stats include 38 goals and 63 assists across 72 games.
The list of teenage NHL players who have scored 100 points in a single season includes Crosby, Wayne Gretzky, Mario Lemieux, Dale Hawerchuk and Jimmy Carson. Gretzky also scored 104 points in 72 games with the Edmonton Oilers in the World Hockey Association during his age-18 season, before the Oilers merged into the NHL.
Ascension to Stardom
Celebrini, a third-place finisher for the Calder Trophy last season, has become a league-wide star. He joins Joe Thornton and Erik Karlsson as the only Sharks to surpass 100 points for the club in a single season. Thornton reached a combined total of 125 points with the Sharks and Boston Bruins in 2005-06 and was the only Hart Trophy winner to play for two different teams in a single year.
Celebrini is now a Hart Trophy candidate, often carrying a San Jose team that finished last in the NHL in both 2023-24 and 2024-25, unexpectedly into playoff contention for a large part of the season. Celebrini has scored twice as many points as the next highest Sharks player, Will Smith, who has 49.
Contract Negotiations Loom
Celebrini has one year remaining on his entry-level contract and can negotiate an extension on July 1. The Sharks are expected to be eager to sign him for eight years before September, when the new collective bargaining agreement takes effect and limits re-signings to seven years. Sharks general manager Mike Grier quipped in March, “I don’t want to think about the number,” when asked about Celebrini’s potential contract value.
Recent Performance
After a nine-game point streak to start March, Celebrini experienced a rare dry spell, recording just one assist over five games. He broke the slump with his 36th goal and an assist in a 3-2 road win over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Saturday, marking his 26th multi-point game this season.
