The college baseball season in the Southeastern Conference has seen considerable movement, with Week 7 bringing a series of unexpected results. Upsets and sweeps have led to a significant reshuffling of the SEC baseball power rankings.
Sweeps Dominate SEC Play
Eleven of the league’s 16 teams experienced at least one loss this past week. Several teams completed sweeps, demonstrating their dominance. Florida swept Arkansas, while Texas swept Oklahoma. Alabama swept Auburn, Mississippi State swept Ole Miss, Vanderbilt swept Tennessee, Texas A&M swept Missouri, and Georgia swept South Carolina.
Top Teams Emerge
Mississippi State, Texas, and Georgia are currently leading the conference standings, all holding a 7-2 league record. These teams have positioned themselves as frontrunners as the season progresses. Only Missouri and South Carolina have fewer than three SEC wins.
Teams on the Rise
Several teams significantly improved their positions in the power rankings after strong performances. Alabama is one of the biggest risers in this week’s SEC baseball power rankings.
- Texas defeated No. 8 Oklahoma.
- Mississippi State swept rival No. 18 Ole Miss on the road.
- Georgia swept South Carolina.
Mississippi State first beat No. 11 Southern Miss 12-0 on Tuesday, and then swept rival No. 18 Ole Miss on the road, winning 5-4, 6-1 and 7-1 from Friday through Sunday, improving to 24-4 overall and 7-2 in league play.
Looking Ahead
The latest Field of 64 projections include 12 SEC teams in the NCAA Tournament field. Six of those teams are projected to host a regional. Mississippi State hosts No. 5 Georgia this weekend. Texas is on the road at South Carolina.
