Sinner Closes Gap on Alcaraz After Miami Open Run

The Sunshine Swing is nearing its conclusion, with the final singles match of the Miami Open set to take place. All eyes are on Jannik Sinner as he aims to complete the ‘Sunshine Double’ against Jiri Lehecka.

Sinner Narrows the Gap

Heading into Miami, Carlos Alcaraz held a commanding lead over Jannik Sinner in the ATP Rankings. Sinner was 2,150 points behind Alcaraz. Following Alcaraz’s third-round exit, he only gained 50 points. Sinner has provisionally closed the gap to 1,540 points and could reduce it further to 1,190 points if he wins the final.

Sinner could potentially reclaim the world No 1 spot at the Monte Carlo Masters in two weeks. He will have opportunities to gain points across the clay swing.

Zverev Moves Ahead of Djokovic

Novak Djokovic’s withdrawal from being a 2025 finalist meant he was guaranteed to fall to world No 4. Alexander Zverev’s semi-final run has given him a slight cushion in the world No 3 position.

Lehecka’s Career High

Jiri Lehecka is set for a new career-high ranking. The 21st seed is projected to rise eight places to world No 14, regardless of his result in the final. His previous high was 16th from last September. Lehecka would move up to world No 12 should he win Sunday’s final.

Other Ranking Changes

Felix Auger-Aliassime is set to move up one place ahead of Taylor Fritz. Fritz was beaten in round four by Lehecka. Arthur Fils’s run to the semi-final sees him return to the top 30.

Two of the biggest winners in the ATP Rankings are set to be Sinner and Lehecka, this year’s finalists in Miami.
