The Cleveland Browns will not be signing AJ Epenesa. The team became uncomfortable finalizing the deal after the veteran defensive end had his physical, according to a source.
Epenesa’s Agreed Deal and Subsequent Visit
The Browns had agreed to a one-year deal worth up to $5 million with Epenesa on March 18, a source stated. Epenesa visited the Browns’ facility last Monday, according to the NFL’s transaction wire. Despite the visit, the deal was not finalized.
Epenesa’s Potential Role with the Browns
Epenesa was expected to add depth to the Browns’ defensive line rotation. This was particularly important after Cameron Thomas signed with the Atlanta Falcons earlier this offseason.
Epenesa’s NFL Career So Far
Epenesa, 27, has played all six of his NFL seasons with the Bills. Originally a second-round pick by Buffalo in the 2020 NFL draft, he has been a reliable member of the team’s defensive line rotation over the years. He played 91 games (19 starts) for the Bills and was considered a strong backup.
