Alexander Zverev has booked his place in the semi-finals of the Miami Open.
The world number three defeated Francisco Cerundolo 6-1, 6-2 in just over an hour.
Zverev’s Dominant Display
Zverev put on a clinical display against Cerundolo. He converted four of his seven break point opportunities.
Zverev also won 84% of his first serve points.
The German did not face a break point in his four service games in the first set, winning the first five games.
Road to the Semi-Final
Zverev is back in the quarter-finals this year after an early exit in 2024.
Cerundolo reached the quarter-finals after a big upset in the third round, beating Daniil Medvedev, before seeing off Ugo Humbert to seal a spot in the last eight.
Zverev and Cerundolo were evenly matched before this match, with both of them winning three of their six meetings.
Sinner Awaits
Next up for Zverev will be Jannik Sinner.
Other Miami Open Action
Aryna Sabalenka is one game away from completing the Sunshine Double after getting the better of Elena Rybakina 6-4, 6-3. It is a second win over the third seed in two weeks after coming out on top at Indian Wells.
This time, it was a smoother performance from Sabalenka, who lost just five points on her first serve. Breaking Rybakina four times from eight attempts, she prevails to now take on Coco Gauff in the final on Saturday.
Coco Gauff booked her spot in the Miami Open final after defeating Karolina Muchova 6-1, 6-1. Gauff needed just 90 minutes to dispatch Muchova.
Muchova struggled on her second serve throughout the match, winning just 20% of the points on it.
Gauff will face Aryna Sabalenka in Saturday’s showpiece.
Jannik Sinner will also be looking to book his spot in the last four on the men’s side of the tournament.
The women’s semi-finals take place today, which includes the rivalry between Aryna Sabalenka and Elena Rybakina.
Aryna Sabalenka took the first set against Elena Rybakina 6-4, getting her one step closer to reaching the final of the tournament. After trading breaks early on, the world number one, managed to break her Kazakh opponent in the final service game of the set to take it.
The winner of Sabalenka versus Rybakina will face Coco Gauff in Saturday’s final.
