Man City Potential Points Deduction: Premier League Warning

The Premier League has been warned that handing Manchester City a 60-point deduction at this stage of the season would damage the competition. This warning comes as the Financial Fair Play (FFP) saga continues. Sanctions are possible as part of a 115-charge case. Richard Dunne told GOAL when a ruling will likely be delivered.

FFP Saga Drags On

Allegations of monetary mismanagement have been hanging over the Etihad Stadium since February 2023. An independent hearing into the accusations was completed late in 2024. There has been no word regarding a verdict across 15 months. Manchester City have maintained their innocence.

The latest suggestions include a potential 60-point penalty for City, which would see them drop down the Premier League table and potentially into the relegation zone. Dunne, speaking via Wiz Slots, believes drastic action is unlikely with only a few games left this season.

Timing of Potential Sanctions Questioned

Dunne said the length of time the process has taken is “ridiculous”. He added that the situation “undermines the whole Premier League” if decisions are made now. Dunne believes it should be addressed in the summer. He said that the Premier League can then work out what they’re going to do going forward rather than retrospectively.

Dunne believes any sanctions are likely to be applied heading into the 2026-27 campaign, considering City’s right to appeal.

Relief for Man City Anticipated

Dunne thinks the situation has been “undermining” for Manchester City. He said that it has followed them around. Dunne said that when ex-players or anyone associated with the club does interviews, the FFP situation is always brought up.

Dunne said that Man City has a lot going for them. He noted their Carabao Cup win and their consistent production of good players and a good style of football. He said that everyone wants to just talk about the negative side of it. Dunne believes that the whole thing getting dealt with and finished would be a relief for everyone from Man City.

Dunne believes it will be a relief for the Premier League to come to a decision and put the whole thing to bed and let Man City be what they are.
