Brett Baty has been named as designated hitter for the Mets’ opening game against the Pirates.
Vientos Misses Out
Mark Vientos is not in the lineup for Thursday’s opener versus the Pirates.
With Paul Skenes pitching for the Pirates, the Mets have opted for Jorge Polanco at first base. Baty, who bats left-handed, will be the designated hitter.
Vientos bats right-handed. It is unlikely he will be a strict short-side platoon bat.
However, he could sit regularly against tougher righties.
