Brewers’ Jackson Chourio Out With Fractured Hand

The Milwaukee Brewers have suffered a blow with outfielder Jackson Chourio placed on the 10-day injured list due to a fractured left hand. The injury, retroactive to Wednesday, was announced hours before their season opener. Chourio is expected to be out for at least the first 2-4 weeks of the regular season.

Chourio’s Injury Details

Chourio sustained the injury on March 4 after being hit by a pitch during an exhibition game for Venezuela in West Palm Beach, Florida. This occurred ahead of the World Baseball Classic. He missed the first two games of the tournament but had been playing since, including the Brewers’ exhibition games against the Cincinnati Reds.

After reporting recent discomfort, an MRI scan revealed a small hairline fracture at the base of his middle finger.

Murphy’s Reaction and Roster Moves

Brewers manager Pat Murphy expressed his disappointment. “I hurt for Jackson,” Murphy said. He added that Chourio had been experiencing pain during check swings and work, prompting the MRI.

Blake Perkins has been recalled from Triple-A Nashville to fill Chourio’s spot on the Opening Day roster. Regarding Christian Yelich’s playing time, Murphy suggested he anticipates Yelich will see more action in the outfield.

Chourio’s Budding Career

Chourio, aged 22, is aiming to continue his promising career. He signed an eight-year, $82 million contract in December 2023. He became the youngest player to secure a 20-20 season as a rookie in 2024, then became the youngest player with multiple 20-20 seasons in ‘25.

The Brewers are hopeful that Chourio’s injury will heal properly during his time on the injured list.
