James Tibbs III made a strong impression in the Dodgers’ camp this spring. Manager Dave Roberts even went as far as to describe him as a ‘championship-type player’. Tibbs continued to perform well in Spring Breakout.
Tibbs’ Spring Breakout Performance
During Spring Breakout, Tibbs hit a three-run homer off Nick Weyrich in the second inning. Tibbs is the Dodgers’ No. 11 prospect.
Tibbs’ Journey to the Dodgers
Tibbs has been traded twice in the past year. He was first involved in the Rafael Devers trade between the Giants and Red Sox. Then, he was part of the Deadline deal that sent Dustin May to Boston.
Potential Big League Debut
Tibbs ended last year in Double-A. He feels like a candidate to make his big league debut this year if L.A. needs outfield reinforcements. The Dodgers’ outfield is crowded in the near future. However, Tibbs can certainly play himself into the mix.
Tibbs’ Mindset
Tibbs told MLB Pipeline’s Jesse Borek earlier in Spring Training that he has always played with a chip on his shoulder. He stated, ‘Hey, I’m here to win, I’m here to show you why I belong.’ He sees the competition as just another stepping stone.
After being traded twice in the past year, Tibbs has thrived in his time in the Dodgers’ organisation.
