Swansea’s Zan Vipotnik Signs New Contract Until 2030

Zan Vipotnik, the Championship’s leading scorer, has committed to Swansea City with a new contract that runs until the summer of 2030.

The deal follows Vipotnik’s impressive form this season, during which the Slovenia international has scored 17 goals in 36 league appearances. His previous contract was set to expire in 2028.

The new agreement rewards Vipotnik for his contribution and strengthens Swansea’s position should other clubs attempt to sign him this summer.

Vipotnik’s Journey at Swansea

Vipotnik’s impact was limited during his first season, 2024-25, after moving to Wales from French side Bordeaux. However, he has made progress this season, scoring 19 goals in 41 appearances across all competitions, a jump from the seven goals in 44 games he managed last term.

Vipotnik signed a four-year deal when he joined Swansea on a free transfer in August 2024, amid financial issues at Bordeaux.

Despite this, there were doubts about his future in Wales early in the season, with Liam Cullen initially preferred in attack. Then head coach Alan Sheehan also pushed to sign Adam Idah before the 1 September transfer deadline.

Turning Point and Contract Extension

Vipotnik’s early-season form, including three goals in August, convinced Swansea to retain him despite interest from European clubs. This decision has proven beneficial, with Vipotnik topping the Championship scoring charts ahead of Haji Wright of Coventry City.

Swansea head coach Vitor Matos said that Zan has enjoyed an excellent season and his goals have played a big part in the positive results they have enjoyed.

Matos added that the new contract is a deserved reward and that they will look to make sure he and the team have a strong end to the season and help him to continue to develop as a player.

  • Vipotnik’s new contract ties him to Swansea until 2030.
  • He has scored 17 league goals in 36 appearances this season.
  • His previous contract was due to expire in 2028.

Future Considerations

There has been a growing feeling that Swansea might be forced to cash in on Vipotnik in the summer transfer window. However, his new contract suggests he may remain at the club for the foreseeable future.

While Swansea may still consider selling him should a substantial offer arrive, they are now in a stronger negotiating position.

Vipotnik will look to celebrate his new deal when mid-table Swansea host league leaders Coventry on Saturday.
