FCSB have started discussions regarding a temporary relocation from Bucharest. The move is being considered because the Arena Națională will be unavailable in May.
Târgoviște Emerges as Potential Host City
Florin Gardoș, the general manager at Chindia and former FCSB player, announced that discussions have taken place for Gigi Becali’s team to move to Târgoviște. The stadium in question is the “Eugen Popescu” arena. This move would be for the final play-out matches, given the Arena Națională’s unavailability.
Gardoș stated that discussions with the Târgoviște City Hall have already occurred, and the chances of the plan materialising are high. According to Gardoș, discussions have also taken place regarding a move to Ghencea while the Arena Națională is unavailable, a move that has happened before.
“Yes, there is a discussion in this direction, but only for the period of May, when you can no longer play on the National Arena. They discussed with the City Hall, because the City Hall owns the stadium.”
“Yes, it all depends on those from FCSB, I think. The City Hall and the community would like it. The chances are high.”
Gardoș added: “Fans in the area are with FCSB, they are also the same colours. It is a fiefdom of FCSB. FCSB, in the play-out, would attract many more spectators to Târgoviște than would come to the National Arena. But I heard that there are also discussions with Ghencea”, according to fanatik.ro.
FCSB’s May Fixtures
FCSB have only one match scheduled as host in May: against Unirea Slobozia, in the penultimate stage of the play-out.
FCSB have two other matches in May, both away: against Csikszereda in Miercurea Ciuc and against Hermannstadt in Sibiu.
Arena “Eugen Popescu” Details
The “Eugen Popescu” arena in Târgoviște has a capacity of 9,000 seats. It was renovated with over 20 million euros. The stadium was inaugurated on 19 May 2023, at the match between Chindia and FC Voluntari, which ended 2-2.
Arena Națională Unavailable for Extended Period
The General City Hall of the Capital has contracted the Arena Națională for the Metallica and Iron Maiden concerts, which has led Dinamo and FCSB to look for a “home” for the final stages of the Superliga. Rapid, another team that has used the Arena Națională as a host, has the stadium in Giulești available.
The Arena Națională will also be unavailable at the beginning of July, when the Kapital Festival will take place. In effect, no match will be played on the Arena Națională from 1 May to 13 July 2026!
