Arsenal and Man City Face Off in Carabao Cup Final

Arsenal and Manchester City are set to clash in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley, vying for their first silverware of the season.

A Potential Mental Shift

The Premier League clash between these two ended in a 1-1 draw at the Emirates in September, but much has changed since then.

Arsenal currently lead the Premier League, holding a nine-point advantage over City with eight games remaining. City can only close that gap by winning their game in hand, defeating Arsenal at the Etihad, and embarking on a winning run.

Freddie Pye from City Xtra suggests a win for Pep Guardiola could significantly impact the mentality at Arsenal. Laura Kirk-Francis, from Latte Firm podcast, believes Arsenal can cope with a defeat.

According to Kirk-Francis, an Arsenal win would boost confidence heading into the season’s final stretch, while a loss wouldn’t necessarily derail their title hopes.

Vengeance and Momentum

Arsenal have not lifted a major trophy since the 2020 FA Cup. They were defeated by City in the 2018 League Cup final when Mikel Arteta was still Pep Guardiola’s assistant.

Kirk-Francis believes a victory against Manchester City in the Carabao Cup final would be significant for Arsenal fans, offering “vengeance for all the misery that Manchester City have heaped on Arsenal”. She added that it would be undeniable proof that this Arsenal team are better than Man City.

Kirk-Francis also suggests it could provide the momentum for Arsenal to secure the Premier League title.

  • Arsenal are currently nine points clear in the Premier League.
  • The Arsenal players have been praised for their resilience.
  • A trophy would be a just reward.

Arsenal’s Resilience

Kirk-Francis acknowledges that an Arsenal loss would be disappointing for the fans. However, she believes this is a mentally strong team.

They have qualified for the Champions League quarter-finals, face Southampton in the FA Cup quarter-final, and are in pole position in the league.

She added that a loss in the final would be a setback, but this squad has dealt with setbacks magnificently all season. Since conceding a last-minute equaliser at Wolves back in February, Arsenal have won six of their last seven games. Having lost to Aston Villa back in December, Arsenal went on a 12-game unbeaten run.

Win, and Arsenal go into the business end of the season full of confidence.
