Ronnie O’Sullivan Reaches World Open Quarter-Final

Ronnie O’Sullivan secured his place in the quarter-finals of the World Open with a victory over Shaun Murphy.

O’Sullivan beat Murphy 5-3 in a superb display in Yushan.

This win marks O’Sullivan’s 150th ranking quarter-final.

O’Sullivan’s Winning Frames

O’Sullivan started strong with a 96 break in the first frame, but Murphy responded with a 139 in the second. Murphy then edged ahead.

The seven-time world champion, O’Sullivan, then produced runs of 77 and 121 to retake the lead.

Although Murphy levelled, O’Sullivan produced further breaks of 89 and 76 to see off his fellow Englishman.

The Quarter-Final Line-Up

The 50-year-old O’Sullivan will face Wales’ Ryan Day in the quarter-finals on Friday. Day defeated Latvia’s Artemijs Zizins 5-4.

Other quarter-final matches include Gary Wilson against Thepchaiya Un-Nooh. Wilson knocked out Zhao Xintong 5-2, while Un-Nooh beat Hong Kong’s Marco Fu 5-2.

Judd Trump will play Hossein Vafaei in the last eight after the Iranian won a tight final frame decider to beat China’s Zhang Anda 5-4.

Mark Allen is also through to the quarter-finals after a 5-0 win over Zhou Yuelong of China.

Allen will face Wu Yize for a place in the semi-finals. Wu Yize came through 5-2 against 2024 world champion Kyren Wilson.

Wilson’s Century Breaks Secure Victory

Zhao Xintong started strongly with a 91 break to take the opening frame against Gary Wilson.

However, runs of 104 and 84 from Wilson put him 2-1 up.

After Zhao levelled, Wilson knocked in 107 and 100 breaks on the way to winning three frames in a row to secure victory.

Ronnie O’Sullivan has not won a ranking event on the world tour since January 2024.
