Bayern Munich’s reserve goalkeeper, Jonas Urbig, is in line to feature against Atalanta in the Champions League. The 22-year-old had been a doubt after suffering a head injury in the first leg of their Champions League tie in Bergamo.
However, the goalkeeper has now been cleared to play. This follows the completion of the return-to-play protocol.
Urbig Passes Fitness Tests
After his head injury in the Champions League match against Bergamo, Jonas Urbig’s availability was uncertain. Following reports, Urbig can play against Atalanta. He completed the final training session without any issues.
Urbig received the all-clear following a 15-minute training session with goalkeeper coach Michael Rechner. He gave a thumbs-up to signal his readiness. Bayern’s medical staff also gave their approval.
Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said: “If everything is right, Urbig will be in goal. But it is a purely medical decision!”
Prescott to Take a Place on the Bench
The news means that 16-year-old Leonard Prescott will start on the bench. He has played in 16 U19 games.
Bayern’s Injury and Suspension List
Bayern have a number of absentees for the match. Manuel Neuer is out with a torn muscle fibre in his left calf. Sven Ulreich is unavailable due to a torn muscle bundle in his right adductors.
Leon Klanac is sidelined with a thigh injury. Jamal Musiala is out with a reaction in his left ankle. Alphonso Davies is missing due to a strain in his right, rear thigh.
Joshua Kimmich and Michael Olise are suspended due to yellow card accumulation. The pair trained at Säbener Straße on Wednesday morning.
Youth Players Included in Squad
Alongside Prescott, three other young players have been included in the squad. Filip Pavic, Vincent Manuba and Deniz Ofli are in the squad for the game against Bergamo.
Kompany is missing seven players for the match.
