Dominican Republic Smash WBC Home Run Record in Miami Showdown

The Dominican Republic have set a new tournament record at the World Baseball Classic (WBC) with a staggering 15 home runs. The record was broken during their semi-final match against the United States.

Caminero’s Blast Breaks the Record

In the second innings, Caminero smashed a solo home run off a sweeper. The hit, against USA’s pitcher Skenes, marked the team’s 15th home run of the tournament. Caminero knew it was a home run as soon as he hit it, throwing his bat in celebration.

The Dominican Republic players celebrated wildly in the dugout after the home run. It gave them an early lead in the semi-final.

Caminero is in his third year in the Majors, hitting 45 home runs for the Rays last season. He was also selected for his first All-Star game and participated in the home run derby, finishing as runner-up.

Dominican Republic’s Power-Packed Lineup

The Dominican Republic team boasts a powerful lineup, including Soto and Guerrero. They had already hit 13 home runs in the first round. Wells hit a game-winning three-run home run in the seventh innings of the quarter-final against South Korea.

Prior to Caminero’s record-breaking hit, the Dominican Republic were tied with Mexico, who hit 14 home runs in the 2009 tournament.

With their powerful batting lineup, the Dominican Republic will be looking to continue their home run hitting form as they progress through the WBC.
