Geno Auriemma has established himself as a dominant figure in women’s college basketball during his time as UConn coach. Over nearly four decades, he has achieved considerable success in winning championships and developing players who have become stars in the WNBA.
Auriemma’s Championship Record at UConn
Auriemma was hired at UConn on May 17, 1985. Since then, he has secured a record 12 national championships.
Olympic Success and Coaching Accolades
Auriemma, aged 71, has also achieved success on the international stage. He won two gold medals as coach of the United States women’s national team at the 2012 London and 2016 Rio Olympics.
Auriemma’s individual accolades include being an eight-time national coach of the year and a 14-time Big East Conference coach of the year.
He has been inducted into the Naismith Memorial Basketball Hall of Fame and the Women’s Basketball Hall of Fame.
