Chesterfield Football Club are delighted to confirm the signing of Ruel Sotiriou on a permanent basis. The 25-year-old forward arrives with significant experience at League One level. He has made 204 appearances and scored 41 goals across spells with Leyton Orient and Bristol Rovers.
During his time at Orient, Sotiriou also gained valuable experience on loan at clubs including Hampton & Richmond and Dover Athletic. He has also represented Cyprus at U19, U21 and full international levels.
Sotiriou’s Thoughts on the Move
Sharing his thoughts on the move, Sotiriou said: “I’m really happy to come to a team in this division, I spoke to Webby, who I’ve known for quite some time.” He added: “We started talking, I came to meet the manager and everything moved quickly from there and we got the deal done.” Sotiriou explained why he feels Chesterfield is the right fit: “I already know a few players here, so it’s great to come into a place where you know people. It makes settling in easier, so it should be a seamless fit.”
Ambition for Promotion
Looking ahead to the season, Sotiriou added: “I will try my best every game to be consistent.” He stated: “Hopefully I can score goals, get assists and help this club climb the divisions.” He also shared the ambition of promotion, saying: “I have won this league before, I know what it takes.”
Excitement for the Fans
Sotiriou also expressed his excitement of playing in front of the Spireites. He said: “I am excited to get out in front of a packed SMH Group Stadium.” He concluded: “When I came here last season, it was a tough place to visit, so I’m happy the fans will be on my side now and hopefully it goes well.”

Assistant manager, Danny Webb spoke about Sotiriou’s arrival. Webb said: “Ruel comes into the squad at a good age and will bring both energy and experience.” Webb added: “We all know, and most importantly, he knows the quality he possesses, which he will hopefully deliver this season.”
