Berrettini Reaches French Open Round 4, Faces Cerundolo Test

Matteo Berrettini is set to face Juan Manuel Cerundolo in Round 4 of the French Open. Cerundolo is coming off a surprise victory against Jannik Sinner and a five-set win over Martin Landaluce. Berrettini is making his first run at Roland Garros since 2021.

Berrettini’s Path to Round 4

Berrettini secured a win against No. 22 Arthur Rinderknech in the second round. He also won a five-set match against Francisco Comesana. Berrettini has some positive Grand Slam history, but most of his success happened prior to 2023.

Since then, Berrettini has only one fourth-round appearance to his name, which was at Wimbledon in 2023. Getting back to the quarterfinals would be an accomplishment for the 30-year-old.

Cerundolo’s Unexpected Run

Cerundolo had not made it past the second round of a Grand Slam until this event. Now, the 24-year-old is through to Round 4 after taking down Martin Landaluce in five sets, and upsetting Sinner. Cerundolo is an underdog in his match against Berrettini.

Cerundolo has never faced Berrettini in his career. Cerundolo is unproven this far into a Grand Slam.
