Mariners Face Trade Dilemma with Arozarena’s Strong Performance

The Seattle Mariners may look to trade a player from their active roster due to a redundant roster. MLB Network insider Jon Morosi believes “there’s probably a trade to be had here.”

Offensive Success Amidst Roster Congestion

Randy Arozarena has been Seattle’s best offensive player in 2026, posting an .867 OPS. It seems unlikely that Brendan Donovan will take the left field spot from Arozarena.

The Mariners picked up Randy Arozarena in 2024. They also acquired Brendan Donovan in the offseason and Josh Naylor last summer.

Right Field Logjam Creates Trade Potential

The roster redundancy Morosi mentioned is centred in right field. The Mariners have Luke Raley, Victor Robles, Dominic Canzone and Rob Refsnyder who either primarily play right field or split their time between that position and DH.

Morosi said trading one of the right fielders would not be a blockbuster. He clarified, “we’re not trading Griffey here.”

Injuries Add Complexity to Mariners’ Decision

The nature of the injuries Raleigh and Donovan are dealing with add to the difficulty of the situation. There’s no guarantee they won’t re-aggravate them when they return.

Raleigh played a stretch after initially straining his oblique before going on the IL. Donovan is on his second IL stint with the same injury.

Once Donovan and Raleigh are fully back in the lineup every day, the Mariners may have to designate someone for assignment or make a trade. Morosi states, “you cannot carry that many right fielders. The math doesn’t make sense for you to do that.”
