The 2026 French Open continues with second-round matches at Roland Garros.
Novak Djokovic is about to take to Court Philippe-Chatrier. He is the second seed in the men’s singles.
Djokovic Displays Efficiency on Serve
Novak Djokovic faces Valentin Royer. Despite dealing with the bright sun on this court, Djokovic is displaying exquisite efficiency on the serve.
His first serve is at 86 percent and has won all of his second serve points. The 24-time Slam champion is one game away from taking the opener here against Frenchman Valentin Royer. This has been a business-like first set from Novak Djokovic.
Djokovic will serve for the opening set.
Other Matches at Roland Garros
In the women’s singles, Elena Rybakina is looking to progress. She had a largely trouble-free start against Yuliia Starodubtseva. Despite being broken late on, she takes the first set 6-3 on Suzanne-Lenglen.
Tommy Paul plays Lorenzo Sonego and Taylor Fritz’s conqueror Nishesh Basavareddy faces Alex Michelsen in an all-American clash.
Rublev Victorious After Tiebreak
Andrey Rublev is always a consistent performer at Grand Slams but will be desperate to break that quarterfinal curse. On 10 occasions he has reached the final eight of a major tournament, but never further.
An explosive, exhausting match on Court Simonne-Mathieu has just drawn to a close after a fourth-set tiebreak, with Andrey Rublev the victor. The final score was Rublev (11) 6-1, 1-6, 6-3, 7-6(5) over Ugo Carabelli.
Camilo Ugo Carabelli’s cross-court forehand landed agonisingly wide at 6-5 in the tiebreak, sending Rublev through to a fifth straight third-round appearance at Roland Garros.
- Iga Świątek has progressed in the women’s singles.
- Alex Zverev faces Tomáš Macháč.
- America’s Katie Volynets is one set up against No. 15 seed Marta Kostyuk.
You can never write one of the greatest male tennis players of all time off. Djokovic’s endless list of titles includes three at Roland Garros — the most recent of which was in 2023 where he defeated Casper Ruud.
But the French Open is his least-won of the four majors. That said, he had a good start to 2026 by becoming the oldest-ever Australian Open finalist as he lost to Carlos Alcaraz in his pursuit of his 25th major title.
Will this year’s French Open be the time his luck ends? He still has a few matches to get through before we find out.
