Medvedev Suffers Early Roland Garros Exit, Cites Personal Reasons

Daniil Medvedev has been knocked out of Roland Garros in the first round. He suffered a five-set defeat to Adam Walton.

Medvedev’s First-Round Exit

Medvedev lost to Adam Walton in five sets. The scores were 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 1-6, 6-4. Walton is the 97th-ranked player in the world.

Prior to this, Walton had only played in one tournament and two matches on clay in 2026. The match took place on the Suzanne-Lenglen court.

Medvedev’s Explanation

Medvedev addressed the press with a relaxed demeanour following his defeat, his seventh first-round loss at Roland Garros. He said he knows why he doesn’t always play his best tennis at Roland Garros. However, he stated he would prefer to keep the reasons to himself to avoid making excuses.

The world number eight touched on the subject again, mentioning his recent tough match against Jannik Sinner in Rome. He lost that match 6-2, 5-7, 6-4. Medvedev said he does not plan to miss any future Roland Garros tournaments unless he has a physical problem.

Medvedev stated that he wants to play in the Grand Slams. He believes he is in good shape and capable of playing well at Roland Garros. He acknowledged that it is more difficult for him, with the early rounds being particularly challenging.

Future Plans

Medvedev said he will always come to Roland Garros. He is considering playing a tournament before the Grand Slams next year. This is something he does not usually do. Medvedev suggested that when something is not working, it is worth considering changes.
