The Bayshore Marathon is poised to bring approximately 8,000 runners to Traverse City’s East Arm of East Grand Traverse Bay this Memorial Day weekend, as it celebrates its 43rd year.

The Traverse Track Club estimates the event generates close to $2.5 million for the local economy, providing a significant boost to the community. All three races for the event have sold out, attracting participants and spectators from various locations.

The Bayshore Marathon serves as one of Traverse City’s key summer events, contributing substantially to the local economy. The influx of participants and their companions is expected to create widespread economic activity across the area.

Restaurant Benefits and Early Bookings

Ron Robinson, General Manager of Reflect Bistro, has observed the direct benefits of the marathon weekend for local businesses. Robinson noted that the event coincides with Memorial Day weekend, which is already a busy period.

According to Robinson, the marathon prompts early reservations at his bistro. “One of the things about the marathon is not only is it Memorial Weekend, which is busy, but the race is such a big race that people book reservations as soon as they get accepted into the race,” Robinson said.

Robinson detailed the expected business for his restaurant, anticipating 40 reservations tonight and 60 tomorrow. He also expects additional walk-in customers.

Community and Service

“The biggest thing about restaurant is service. If you have great service and great food, people will come,” Robinson said.

Tkach described the marathon as a unique community gathering. “It becomes a real fun community event, like something I haven’t seen anywhere else in the state. So that’s kind of special, too,” Tkach said.
