Tigers Aim to Clinch Series Against Blue Jays After Friday Win

The Detroit Tigers are looking to clinch a home series win after their victory against the Toronto Blue Jays. The Tigers broke a three-game losing streak with a 3-2 win on Friday night in the first game of the series. The win featured a strong pitching performance and a walk-off home run.

Mize Returns From Injury

AJ Hinch will have right-hander Casey Mize back from the injured list to start on Saturday. This will be Mize’s first start since April 28. In that previous start, Mize pitched 2 1/3 innings, allowing two runs on three hits and a walk, while also striking out three.

Mize’s injury occurred while fielding a bunt toward first base. The last time Mize faced the Blue Birds was back in 2024 on May 26. He allowed three runs on eight hits and two walks, striking out nobody over 4 1/3 frames which resulted in a 14-11 team win.

Pitching Matchup

Casey Mize (2-2, 2.90 ERA) will face LHP Mason Fluharty (2-0, 5.40 ERA). Fluharty has made 22 appearances this season, with 21 of those in relief. His only major league start was in an opener role against the Chicago White Sox on April 4. He threw just one inning, allowing a run on two hits and a walk while striking out one in a team loss.
