Bundesliga: Osnabrück and Cottbus Promoted to 2. Bundesliga

VfL Osnabrück and Energie Cottbus are heading to the 2. Fußball-Bundesliga.

Energie Cottbus will return to the 2. Fußball-Bundesliga next season after twelve years. They secured the second spot in the table with a 1-0 victory against Jahn Regensburg on the last matchday of the 3. Liga. Jannis Boziaris scored the winning goal for Cottbus.

VfL Osnabrück had already sealed their promotion to the 2. Liga and the Drittliga-Meisterschaft before the final matchday. Osnabrück won their last game of the season against VfB Stuttgart II with a score of 4:3.

Essen Edges Out Duisburg for Relegation Play-off

The battle between MSV Duisburg and Rot-Weiss Essen for the relegation spot remained tight until the end. Essen secured third place with a 3:2 victory against SSV Ulm, who had already been relegated. Ben Hüning scored the winning goal for Essen in added time.

Essen overtook Duisburg at the last moment, as Duisburg finished the season with a 1:1 draw against Viktoria Köln.

The relegation play-offs will take place on 22 and 26 May against the team finishing third from bottom in the 2. Liga.

Teams Relegated to Regionalliga

Alongside Ulm, TSV Havelse, Erzgebirge Aue and 1. FC Schweinfurt 05 have been relegated to the Regionalliga.
