Marner’s Playoff Surge: Golden Knights Star Shines

Mitch Marner is having a standout Stanley Cup Playoffs with the Vegas Golden Knights, leading the NHL in points. His underlying metrics are fueling his NHL-best point total.

Record-Breaking Start in Vegas

Marner has 16 points in his first 10 games this postseason. That’s the most points by a Golden Knights skater over the first 10 playoff games in a single year since the franchise was established in 2017-18. He surpassed teammate Jack Eichel, who had 13 points in his first 10 games during the 2022 playoffs. Marner has also surpassed his previous best playoff point total of 14, which he achieved in 11 games with the Toronto Maple Leafs during the 2023 postseason.

Marner had some huge moments this postseason; he set up Brett Howden for a shorthanded overtime goal against the Utah Mammoth in Game 5 of the Western Conference First Round, scored the series-clinching goal against the Mammoth in Game 6 of that series and had a hat trick against the Anaheim Ducks in Game 3 of the Western Conference Second Round.

Leading the League

Marner leads or co-leads the NHL in several categories during the 2026 playoffs.

  • Points (16)
  • Primary assists (7)
  • Shorthanded points (3)

He also co-leads in multipoint games (4), three-point games (3), four-point games (1), multigoal games (2), game-winning goals (2), hat tricks (1), and road goals (5).

Marner was a key part of Canada’s 2025 4 Nations Face-Off championship and silver-medal team at the 2026 Winter Olympics; he scored the overtime goal against Sweden at 4 Nations and had the primary assist on Connor McDavid’s championship-winning goal in overtime against the United States last year. Marner also scored an overtime goal against Czechia in the quarterfinal round of the 2026 Olympics to help Canada advance to the medal round.

Turning the Playoff Tide

Before joining Vegas this past offseason, Marner hadn’t reached his full potential during previous postseasons with Toronto. Prior to this postseason, Marner had 63 points in 70 career postseason games with the Maple Leafs. This year, he has already matched or exceeded his previous career totals from his first nine seasons with the Maple Leafs in multigoal games, power-play goals and shorthanded points.

Underlying Metrics Behind the Success

Marner is tied for the NHL lead in high-danger goals this postseason with four.

Marner is having the best Stanley Cup Playoffs performance of his career with the Vegas Golden Knights.
