Kwity Paye of the Indianapolis Colts has been identified as an overrated free agent by ESPN’s Seth Walder.
Walder’s assessment was based on Paye’s pass rush win rate, which he stated was last among qualifying edge rushers at only 4.5%. He added that Paye’s pressure rate was in the 12th percentile among the same players. Walder noted that Paye was in the bottom quartile in both metrics in 2024, too.
Paye’s Performance Statistics
During the 2025 season, Paye recorded 38 pressures and four sacks. According to PFF, Paye ranked 52nd in pressures, 69th in pass rush win rate, and 88th in run stop rate compared to his position group league-wide.
Contradictory Views on Paye’s Free Agency Potential
Despite Walder’s analysis, ESPN insider Jeremy Fowler included Paye among his “top sleeper free agents” coming out of the NFL combine.
Paye could end up having a relatively strong market.
Colts’ Pass Rush Needs
The Colts ranked 30th in ESPN’s pass rush win rate as a collective unit. A more consistent pass rush around Laiatu Latu was needed.
With Paye, Samson Ebukam, and Tyquan Lewis free agents, the Colts may reshape their defensive end position group around Latu. General Manager Chris Ballard should explore doing so, as the Colts need more pass rush juice at defensive end.
