One of the best Liga MX match-ups is set as Chivas and Cruz Azul clash for a place in the grand final of Mexican football in the Liguilla del Clausura 2026 semifinals.
Chivas’ Hopeful Run
The Chivas faithful are optimistic. According to reports, it has been years since the squad and coach have inspired such hope in their fans. Gabriel Milito has managed to achieve this.
Despite missing five of their best players, who are away on international duty with the Mexican national team, Guadalajara eliminated Tigres in the quarter-finals. After losing the first leg 3-1, they won the return leg 2-0, progressing due to their higher position in the general table. They now aim to go further.
Cruz Azul’s Title Ambitions
Cruz Azul advanced past Atlas without any issues, winning both legs. La Máquina Cementera are consistently among the top contenders for any title they compete for. They have not been champions of Mexican football since the Clausura 2021.
With Joel Huiqui as interim manager following the dismissal of Nicolás Larcamón after J16, they will be aiming to finally lift the Liga MX trophy.
