Rashan Gary’s future with the Green Bay Packers is in question after a since-deleted social media post. The defensive end posted a goodbye message on Friday, only to remove it shortly after.
Multiple outlets reported Gary’s Instagram account had been hacked.
Social Media Stir and Trade Speculation
NFL Network Insider Tom Pelissero reported that Gary has neither been released nor traded. However, all options remain on the table. Pelissero added that Gary has been the subject of trade talks ahead of the start of the league year next Wednesday.
The deleted message read: “When I got the call in 2019, it was one of the greatest moments of my life, and it always will be. The opportunity to represent Green Bay and Packers Nation across the country and around the world is something I will never forget.
“Like all chapters in life, this one has come to an end. I want to thank everyone who supported me and my family throughout the years. The love, the energy, and the memories mean more than words can explain. On to my next stop nowhere near done yet.”
Gary’s Contract and Potential Cap Savings
Gary, the 12th overall pick of the 2019 NFL Draft, has two years remaining on a four-year, $96 million extension signed in 2023. He has a $17.042 million salary cap number in 2026 and no guaranteed salary due over the last two seasons of his deal.
Cutting Gary would save the Packers $10.9 million in cap space. Trading him would save the Packers just as much.
- Gary has posted 46.5 sacks in his seven years with Green Bay.
- He earned a 2024 Pro Bowl nod.
- He’s yet to reach double-digit sacks in a season.
Recent Performance and Team Struggles
In 2025, he recorded 7.5 sacks for a second straight season. He also had 45 tackles, seven tackles for loss and 20 QB hits.
After Micah Parsons was lost for the season with an ACL tear in Week 15, the Packers defense cratered. It had begun to struggle prior, as well. Gary didn’t have a sack following Week 13.
Regardless of the validity of Friday’s social media kerfuffle, Gary’s future in Green Bay seems very much in flux.
