Gary Rowett is among those being considered for the Leicester City manager position. This follows the end of his short-term contract as boss. Leicester City supporters have been sharing their views on who should take charge of the Foxes in League One next season.
Fuchs a Popular Choice Among Supporters
Christian Fuchs, the Premier League-winning former Leicester City defender, is a popular choice among fans who responded to BBC Sport. Fuchs recently oversaw Newport’s League Two relegation escape. Some fans see Gary Rowett as the right person to continue in the job.
Other names mentioned by fans include former Foxes boss Nigel Pearson. Also mentioned were Motherwell’s Jens Bertel Askou, Burton Albion’s Gary Bowyer, and former Burnley, Everton and Nottingham Forest manager Sean Dyche.
Fan Opinions on Potential Managers
Liz believes Christian Fuchs would be an exciting appointment. She notes that he knows the setup and probably knows some of the junior stars. Liz added that Fuchs has done wonders to keep Newport up. Brian believes Leicester City need a complete rebuild and would choose Christian Fuchs to do the job, supported by someone like Robert Huth.
Dave would have Nigel Pearson back, noting he basically put the 2016 squad together. However, Dave is unsure if the owners would have him back. Dave thinks Christian Fuchs would be a nice story as a club legend, but recalls that Andy King didn’t do such a good job when he had a go.
Colt believes it has to be title-winning Christian Fuchs, who could build a new young team and be an inspiring in-house leader like Michael Carrick at Manchester United. Colt feels none of the other names are exciting enough or connected to LCFC. Chris sees risk but many reasons to opt for Fuchs, saying the club needs to restore spirit and fan connectivity, and he has achieved his goals at Newport.
Arguments for Sticking with Rowett
Liam would personally stick with Rowett. Liam does not blame him for the relegation from the Championship, stating he walked into a toxic environment and inherited a squad lacking confidence, desire and motivation. Liam believes Rowett has the knowhow and is one of the most experienced coaches in EFL football. He thinks Rowett could get as play-offs as an absolute minimum if the player recruitment is right.
Nick thinks the club should stick with Rowett, saying the team played with far more structure and impetus than they’ve seen for a while. Nick notes that Rowett was prepared to drop players on loan when it was clear the club needed to look to the future. Nick would love to see Jordan James back next season, adding that Rowett knows the league and has some time to continue what he’s started and build momentum.
Simon questions why even a dysfunctional leadership team would consider extending Rowetts stay. Dave feels the club has run out of options, adding that Rowett has a good track record in the Championship. Swapping him now for someone who’s CV is League One oriented is the wrong signal, in Dave’s opinion. Dave notes Rowett has worked with small budgets before.
Rowett has come to the end of his short-term contract as Leicester boss.
