Aaron Rodgers Reportedly Heading to Pittsburgh for Contract Talks

Aaron Rodgers is reportedly heading to Pittsburgh this weekend to discuss a contract with the Steelers.

Reports from 93.7 The Fan, corroborated by the NFL Network, suggest Rodgers could sign with the team.

Rodgers’ Potential Return to the Steelers

Rodgers, a four-time NFL MVP quarterback, may return for his 22nd professional season, which would be his second with the Steelers.

He went 10-6 as a starter for the Steelers last season, leading them to their first AFC North title in five years, despite another first-round playoff defeat.

Timing of the Visit

The Steelers are holding a rookie minicamp from Friday through Sunday at the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.

Organised team activities are scheduled to begin on May 18, followed by OTAs and a mandatory veteran minicamp over the subsequent four weeks.

Rodgers did not join the Steelers until minicamp last year.

Reunion with Mike McCarthy

Last season was expected to be Rodgers’ final one, particularly after Mike Tomlin stepped down as coach in January.

However, the hiring of Mike McCarthy, who coached Rodgers in Green Bay for 13 seasons, has reignited speculation about Rodgers continuing with the Steelers.

Mike McCarthy, Steelers owner Art Rooney II, and general manager Omar Khan have reportedly maintained positive communication with Rodgers over the past four months. The future Hall of Famer was deciding whether to return, retire, or play elsewhere.

Rodgers and McCarthy previously won the February 2011 Super Bowl together with the Packers, defeating the Steelers.

Contract Details

The Steelers tendered Rodgers a contract last week to protect their ability to receive draft-pick compensation should he sign elsewhere before late July.

After that point, they would have exclusive rights to him.

The tendered contract is worth approximately $15 million, but the final compensation could be different, pending negotiations.

Rodgers’ arrival in Pittsburgh suggests progress in those discussions.
