Glasnow Reaches Milestone but Exits Early Against Astros

Tyler Glasnow made his mark on Wednesday’s game against the Houston Astros, achieving a major career milestone. He secured his 1,000th career strikeout in the first inning by fanning Yordan Alvarez. Glasnow is the fastest starting pitcher in Major League history to reach 1,000 strikeouts in just 793 innings.

Unfortunately, Glasnow’s outing was cut short. He exited the game with a trainer before facing a batter in the second inning. The team reported that he had lower back pain.

Glasnow’s Record-Breaking Achievement

Glasnow’s 1,000th strikeout came against Yordan Alvarez on an 82.3 mph curveball. He joins an exclusive group of fewer than 600 pitchers in Major League history to reach the 1,000 strikeout mark. The Southern California native entered Wednesday ranking eighth among qualified NL pitchers with a 2.45 ERA and leading the Majors with a 0.70 WHIP.

Glasnow broke Freddy Peralta’s record of 804 2/3 innings to reach 1,000 strikeouts. He also joins Robbie Ray, Yu Darvish, and Blake Snell at the top of the list.

  • Tyler Glasnow: 793 IP
  • Freddy Peralta: 804 ⅔ IP
  • Robbie Ray: 810 IP
  • Yu Darvish: 812 IP
  • Blake Snell: 820 2/3 IP
  • Dylan Cease: 830 1/3 IP

Injury Concerns Overshadow Milestone

Glasnow appeared to tweak something while throwing his warm-up pitches, leading to a meeting on the mound. Jack Dreyer replaced him on the mound.

The injury exit casts a pall over Glasnow’s remarkable achievement. After seasons hampered by elbow and shoulder injuries in 2024 and 2025, the Southern California native has emerged as the durable anchor the Dodgers prioritised when they signed him to a five-year, $136.5 million extension.

Earlier in the first, Glasnow surrendered a solo home run to Brice Matthews.

For Glasnow, the road to 1,000 strikeouts has been defined as much by his elite velocity as his resilience.
