Sturridge’s Comment Leaves Keane Struggling to Keep Straight Face

Former Liverpool striker Daniel Sturridge caused a moment of amusement for Roy Keane and Sky Sports presenter Dave Jones during a match analysis segment. The trio were discussing Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens’ role in Liverpool’s equalising goal when the incident occurred.

The Comment That Caused a Stir

Sturridge’s remark that Lammens ‘shifts it’ was misheard by Keane and Jones. They thought he had used a similar-sounding expletive. This caused them to struggle to contain their laughter.

A visibly exasperated Sturridge responded with “come on, guys” as he implored his Sky Sports colleagues to pull themselves together.

Keane’s Analysis of the Match

Despite the light-hearted moment, Keane offered a serious verdict on the match. He commented on Lammens’ pass, stating, “Honestly, just go long. What’s the benefit of making that pass? It’s too risky. What defines the players is their decision.”

Keane added, “The goalkeeper has been brilliant, let’s not be too harsh on him, but when you’re under pressure and see Liverpool pressing, just miss them out.”

Manchester United had raced into a 2-0 lead. Matheus Cunha scored the opener, and Benjamin Sesko was awarded a goal. Dominik Szoboszlai struck back in the 47th minute, before Cody Gakpo took advantage of Lammens’ wayward pass. Kobbie Mainoo’s winner settled matters.

Carrick’s Reaction to United’s Performance

United manager Michael Carrick expressed his delight at his team’s response during the game. He stated, “We have scored a lot of goals. We have scored in pretty much every game.”

Carrick added, “The big fault of ours, if anything, is the out-of-possession work and being hard to play against. We tried to put our strengths into the game. We started the game brilliant.”

  • United have scored in pretty much every game.
  • Carrick focused on out-of-possession work.
  • Carrick praised the team’s character and belief.

Carrick also said: “I am just as pleased at the way we finished the game, after two setbacks quickly, it could’ve knocked us but the character and belief the boys showed was really good. Mistakes happen.”

Regarding his future, Carrick stated, “I am happy with where we are at the moment and we still want to get better. Let’s see what happens next. At this moment in time, it’s not something I am thinking about.”

United confirmed their place in the Champions League with the result.
