AC Milan Target Arsenal’s Gabriel Jesus Amid Striker Search

Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus has emerged as a potential target for AC Milan this summer. The Brazilian is reportedly on Milan’s shortlist for a new centre-forward and is considered one of their top transfer targets.

Milan’s Striker Search

Milan are looking to address their attacking problems with a versatile striker. The club turned to Niclas Füllkrug during the winter transfer window after Santiago Gimenez was sidelined for much of the season. However, Füllkrug has not impressed during his loan spell from West Ham United, making it unlikely that Milan will exercise their option to buy him. The 33-year-old is expected to return to England at the end of the season, with VfL Wolfsburg reportedly interested in his next move.

Manager Massimiliano Allegri has experimented with Christopher Nkunku, Rafael Leao and Christian Pulisic in the number nine role this term due to a lack of fit and in-form centre-forwards. With Champions League qualification expected next season, Milan are determined to secure a high-calibre striker.

Jesus as a Potential Solution

Despite his reputation, Gabriel Jesus is considered a relatively affordable option because his Arsenal contract runs until 2027. This summer presents Arsenal with their last opportunity to secure a decent transfer fee for the 29-year-old, which weakens their negotiating position.

However, signing Jesus comes with risks. He only returned in December after nearly a year out with a cruciate ligament tear and is still working to regain his best form. His recent appearances have been sporadic.

Jesus’s Arsenal Record

This season, Jesus has five goals and two assists in 25 outings. He is behind Viktor Gyökeres and Kai Havertz in Arsenal’s striking hierarchy. Jesus initially gained prominence at Palmeiras before joining Manchester City in 2017. After five years at City, he moved to Arsenal in 2022, making 121 appearances and scoring 31 goals to date.

According to transfer expert Gianluca Di Marzio on the Sky Calcio Unplugged podcast, Jesus is on Milan’s shortlist for a new centre-forward.
