Hull City are dealing with midfield injury concerns before their final game of the Championship season.
Sergej Jakirovic has acknowledged these issues.
Matazo’s Injury Woes
Eliot Matazo has suffered another ACL injury, his second since returning from his previous one.
He is scheduled to undergo surgery in London next week.
Jakirovic addressed concerns that Matazo’s return to play was rushed. He stated that this was not the case and that they had been in constant communication with Matazo and the medical staff.
Matazo trained with the team for almost four weeks before returning, according to Jakirovic.
Midfield Injury List Grows
Jakirovic admitted the team has problems in midfield. He cited injuries to Amir Hadžiahmetović and Toby Collyer.
Darko Gyabi has also recently returned after a 12-week absence.
Jakirovic said that they always try to make the best decisions for the team.
“We always try to do the best, make the best decision for the team that can help the team. Unfortunately, it’s his right knee, it’s very unhappy for me, but of course, life goes on, and we will do everything to help Eliott come back even stronger.”
Play-off Hopes on the Line
Hull City are level on points with Wrexham, who currently hold the final play-off spot.
They face Norwich City in their final game.
Jakirovic explained his thinking behind Matazo’s return. His decision was that it’s better to start in the game because if something happens like now, of course not ACL, but hamstring, quad, groin, we can replace or split the minutes with Regan Slater.
Hull City will be hoping to overcome their midfield problems as they push for a play-off place.
