Matt Able, an NC State transfer, has committed to the North Carolina Tar Heels. A source confirmed the news to 247Sports.
Able’s Transfer Portal Ranking
The 6-foot-5 shooting guard ranks as the No. 44 overall player in the transfer portal. Able was a top 30 recruit among the class of 2025’s biggest stock risers. He initially committed to Miami and signed with the Hurricanes. He was later granted his release and landed at NC State.
A Look at His Performance at NC State
While with the Wolfpack, Able averaged 8.8 points and 3.4 rebounds. He shot 35.5% from 3 in 21.7 minutes per game.
Able is a talented guard with significant upside. He looks primed to make a big jump in his sophomore season.
New Coach Malone’s Recruiting Success
Able represents the third commitment for new coach Michael Malone in the portal. He joins talented wing Neoklis “Neo” Avdalas from Virginia Tech and talented bucket-getter Terrence Brown from Utah.
Rebuilding the UNC Roster
With Able’s addition, UNC is rebuilding with a talented group. This raises their ceiling.
If they can also retain Henri Veesaar, the Tar Heels will be off to a strong start in the Malone era.
