Busan Open Challenger Tournament Set to Commence

The Busan Open International Men’s Challenger Tennis Tournament is set to be held at Geumjeong Sports Park Tennis Court, commencing on May 12 and concluding on May 19.

The tournament will gather world-class professional male tennis players.

Korea’s Highest-Level Challenger Tournament

The Busan Open started as a domestic tournament in 1999. It expanded into an international event in 2003.

It is Korea’s highest-level Challenger 125 tournament. The Association of Tennis Professionals (ATP) Tour and the Korea Tennis Association host the event. The Busan Open Organizing Committee organises it, with sponsorship from Busan Metropolitan City.

Around 80 players from more than 30 countries are expected to compete. The total prize money is $225,000.

Players to Watch

The tournament will begin with singles qualifiers on May 12-13. The main draw will be from May 14-19, with the final scheduled for the afternoon of May 19.

Korean players slated to participate include national team members Kwon Soon-woo, Park Ui-sung, and Nam Ji-sung. Shin Woo-bin and Jeong Yoon-sung are also expected to compete.

International competitors include James Duckworth and Bernard Tomic.

Qualifiers are open for free admission. Main draw matches require online ticket reservations.

Busan Metropolitan City aims to enhance its standing as a global sports city through this tournament. It also intends to provide citizens with opportunities to watch international-level sports events.
