Mikey Moore’s potential permanent move to Rangers faces increasing uncertainty, with a return to Tottenham more likely in the summer.
Spurs are preparing to assess the winger’s situation once they know whether they will be in the Premier League or the Championship.
Tottenham will evaluate his position in the summer, meaning Rangers could miss out on a key target.
Tottenham’s Relegation Battle Impacts Moore’s Future
Tottenham’s hopes of remaining in the Premier League suffered a blow after a 1-0 defeat to Sunderland. West Ham, Leeds and Nottingham Forest all picked up points.
Mick Brown, a former Tottenham scout, stated that Moore’s performances since joining Rangers will force a major decision about his future.
Spurs have been monitoring his loan performances closely.
Spurs Could Offer Moore a First Team Chance
Keith Wyness, former Aberdeen CEO, warned back in February that Rangers have “no chance” of signing Moore on a permanent deal this summer.
Despite his development under Danny Rohl and since his move to Ibrox, he is more likely to return to Spurs.
Spurs will be reluctant to see him leave permanently.
Rangers remain hopeful they can reach an agreement, but much depends on Tottenham’s transfer plans and their league status.
Brown told that if Tottenham are relegated, “it becomes much more likely that he will return.”
“The way things are going at the moment, they’ll be in the Championship,” Brown stated.
“The big question is whether their current wingers are going to stick around, are they going to pay their wages and convince them to play in the Championship?
“It’s more likely that they’ll be moved on, and that could open the door for Mikey Moore.
Their loans department has been assessing how well he’s done, how good he is, and whether he’ll be ready to come into their starting XI.
“Is he the level of player they need in the Championship, or do they think they can do better elsewhere?
- That’s the decision they’ll make at the end of the season, even if they stay in the Premier League.
- If they go down, it becomes much more likely that he will return.
Spurs Have Previously Considered Recalling Moore
Tottenham have already considered where Moore ranks amongst their current options, ahead of their plans to assess the winger’s position in the summer.
Tottenham had considered recalling Moore from his loan spell after a tricky start to the season at Ibrox, it was revealed in December.
However, they ultimately decided to let him see out his deal at Rangers given the wide options at their disposal which made it unlikely that he would impact their plans.
Should they suffer relegation from the Premier League, though, a number of their current options are expected to move on with other clubs interested.
That would open space for the Rangers loanee to come in and make an impact on the starting XI, after impressing watching scouts with his displays at Ibrox.
